At 3:00pm on January 21, 2019 crews blasting rock for the installation of sewer lines on Wakefield Road caused serious damage to infrastructure. Telus, BC Hydro, Coast Cable and WorkSafe were immediately notified and the road was temporarily closed to remove debris. Hydro assessed their lines and determined there was no damage.

The District of Sechelt has selected Waste Management as the successful proponent for curbside solid waste collection in Sechelt. Exact terms of the new contract have not yet been determined however, with this new contract the District will expand the current solid waste collection services.
On the advice of Thurber Engineering, the District of Sechelt closed Seawatch Lane, to all vehicular traffic, west of 6649 Seawatch Lane at 6 pm on January 9, 2019. The roads will remain closed until further investigation of ground stability is complete.

At their regular meeting on December 5th, Council unanimously adopted a new smoking bylaw that establishes smoke free locations and buffer zones. Following community consultation in 2016 and 2018, the proposed bylaw reflects the community feedback and reflects new Provincial legislation regarding smoking and vaping control.
For the first time in Sechelt’s history, this small town with big city goals has made the top 20 list of Best City for Work in 2019, according to BC Business magazine. Ranking number 12 in BC, Sechelt is poised to attract investors and workers to this seaside community.
The Sechelt Visitor Information Centre (VIC) has been managed, under contract with the District, by the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society since 2004. They have provided notice that they will end the contract on December 31, 2018.
