News Release - Wakefield Road blasting incident damages infrastructure

At 3:00pm on January 21, 2019 crews blasting rock for the installation of sewer lines on Wakefield Road caused serious damage to infrastructure. Telus, BC Hydro, Coast Cable and WorkSafe were immediately notified and the road was temporarily closed to remove debris. Hydro assessed their lines and determined there was no damage.

Seawatch roads remain closed

The District of Sechelt announced the barricades on Gale Avenue North and Seawatch Lane will remain in place, effectively blocking all traffic to the Seawatch neighbourhood, in response to the most recent investigation from Thurber Engineering. Signs are in place to restrict pedestrian access as well.

Harbour Way effluent lift station overflow

On Friday January 25th the effluent lift station at the foot of Harbour Way in West Porpoise Bay had a pump failure and effluent spill. The station is currently operating effectively and the spill was contained by Sechelt staff and Startek Industrial Services. It is estimated that no more than 10 m3 of effluent may have spilled into the ocean.

Waste Management staff are doing their best to complete garbage pick up today, although service may be delayed due to weather. If it is your regular garbage day please leave your can out all day. If they cannot safety navigate a road due to ice and snow and your bin is not collected you can put out an extra can on your next scheduled collection day.
